Texas Fiddle Music has a New Acoustic Sound

By October 14, 2015 8 Comments

Hey Y’all! This past month of touring has been really inspiring. First off we have to say thanks to you, our fantastic fans for coming out to each show! We love meeting you, getting to know you, and sharing music together.

The Quebe Sisters performing at the MIM Musical Theater in Phoenix, AZ.

So now down to the news…In addition to working on new musical material, we have been trying out new sound equipment to create a more intimate and organic sound from the stage.

We have considered many different types and styles of microphones, but found that a unidirectional cardioid condenser microphone best suites our style of vocal blend. Unidirectional mics have been used for years in acoustic music and bluegrass to create a natural vocal blend from the stage so we are excited to add this new set up to our shows.

In addition to the new vocal mic, we have been loving trying out DPA violin microphones for our fiddles. DPA microphones clip to the side of the instrument and hang directly above the bridge to produce a natural acoustic sound and retain the instrument’s integrity. They are all the rage with acoustic players these days, so we had to jump on the band wagon (ha!) and see what they were all about.

We’d like to give a shout out to our friends at Sweetwater Sound for helping us find the best gear! Also, we’d like to say a special thank you to the fans at our recent performances for putting up with us as we tinker with our new sound!

My only complaint about your shows in the past was that the microphones were covering your pretty faces! This new gear should free you all up to move around a bit. Looking forward to seeing you all play again.

Would like to hear your rendition of South, and I want you to record it.

I got to see ya’ll last night at Main Street Crossing in Tomball. This was my first time to see you in concert-my family and I thoroughly enjoyed it. ‘Louise’, your new microphone, performed flawlessly. I don’t know how Hulda sang so well considering the fact you woke up not able to talk! Thank you so much for talking with me after the show-I could tell that ya’ll were tired. Ya’ll were so kind , I didn’t want to leave, but my family was ready to go. I hope ya’ll made it home OK. If I may make a request, could ya’ll perform ‘Home on the Range’ sometime? I just know you would do an amazing job. Keep up the good work, ladies-you’re a breath of fresh air. God bless you!

Loved your show in Forest Grove 😉 I agree with Paul about the old microphones covering your faces, but the single mic doesn’t leave much room for Hulda to keep time with snapping fingers! Keep up the great sound and look!

That’s great y’all have gone to a condenser mic! True it’s hard to spread out but it will pick up your harmonies equally and beautifully. I also love keeping the old traditions alive. I look forward to seeing y’all again with your new setup this time! We didn’t get to make it to Tomball (4 hour drive) but I’ll keep an eye for shows around San Antonio.

Just caught your show at Wolf Trap. The performance was great and was made even better by the sound equipment. The single vocal mic not only sounds great (very clean and allows all the voices to be heard individually )but it also creates a great stage dynamic where you all move in close to sing and stand back to play.
